Biography

Part-Time Faculty, Department of Communication, Wayne State University.

My role in the Department of Communication is as Part-Time Faculty of the Business Communication course. Since 2004, I have been a lecturer of the Department of Communication. At Wayne my primarily responsibility is for the Business Communication (COM 3300) course, but I also teach the Oral Communication: Basic Speech class, (COM 1010) and have assisted as an academic service officer. My academic interests include social media, online communities, and business communication.

My professional background includes my current position as the marketing and communications manager of the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan. I began my career with Gannett Co. Inc., working in the USA Today circulation office as a blue chip account manager in markets around the US. While at Gannett, I held various operations and sales positions of increasing responsibility in customer service, product development, retail and national advertising, new media, and circulation for The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News. I’ve also held the position as conference manager for Society of Manufacturing Engineers, engineering and IT non-credit manager for Univeristy of Michigan-Dearborn, business development manager for the Advanced Electric Vehicle Program at the University of Detroit-Mercy and director of business and IT workforce for Macomb Community College.

I received my BA from Michigan State University, MA in public relations from Wayne State University followed by a PhD with an emphasis in marketing from Wayne State University. I continue to teach communication courses at Wayne State University and have authored several case studies for WSU.

Academic Interests

I have been a part-time faculty member in the Department of Communication at Wayne since the winter of 2004. My professional background includes many years in the media and academic industries as an executive working in the areas of operations, business development, advertising, sales, marketing, and strategic planning.

About the Department of Communication

With 630 undergraduate majors and 150 graduate students, the Department of Communication is diverse and dynamic, featuring programs in communication studies, media arts and studies, film, journalism, public relations and dispute resolution.

Our students experience the benefit of a world-class education in a real world context. The department is composed of 30 tenure and tenure track faculty and 35 part-time faculty with strong backgrounds in both scholarly and professional approaches to communication.

25 graduate assistantships are offered each year. Wayne State’s Graduate School is among the 10 largest in the country and, with more than 10,000 students, is the largest in Michigan.

The department includes programs in journalism, mass media and communication studies and offers undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees.
