The Department of Communication has hosted a film festival highlighting student works for over 30 years. This partnership builds on a long history of Wayne State celebrating the role of moving images in the Detroit community.

"We are delighted that we are now part of the Freep Film Festival allowing for further opportunities to promote one of the most accessible of all art forms," said CFPCA Dean Matthew Seeger. We hope many members of the Detroit community are able to join us on the Wayne State campus for some truly wonderful viewing experiences."

The Freep Film Festival is a documentary-focused event that pays special tribute to films connected to city of Detroit and the state of Michigan. The festival provides a spotlight on noteworthy journalism and documentary storytelling and its ability to inform, inspire and help push the region forward.

As a lecturer and area head of the media arts and studies program, Juanita Anderson is among the devoted faculty members to credit for this educational opportunity for CFPCA students and the community. Anderson is a veteran producer, executive producer and documentary filmmaker. Anderson has contributed her film expertise on many panels in the Detroit area serving as speaker as well as moderator.

"The Freep Film Festival provides a unique opportunity to bring together our Detroit community, students and outstanding filmmakers from across the nation," said Anderson. "I'm delighted that Wayne State University will serve as a venue for these engaging screenings and conversations. We are also collaborating with the Freep on a series of special events throughout the Festival's venues that support the work of documentary filmmakers."
