Marquette's Eric Johnson to golf in Scotland

Recent Wayne State University graduate and former WSU golfer Eric Johnson and WSU junior Robert Favaro have been selected to be a part of a GLIAC All-Star team that will travel to Scotland and compete against a Scottish All-Star team Aug. 12-21. Johnson was named to the Division II PING All-Midwest team as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America. In addition, Johnson is 2012-13 GLIAC Golfer of the Year and an All-GLIAC First Team selection. Favaro is an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention selection and won the Tiffin Kyle Ryman Memorial and the first NCAA Regional.

UP Golfer named GLIAC Athlete of the Year

Wayne State University senior public relations major, Eric Johnson, earned the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf "Athlete of the Year" award. Johnson posted the lowest stroke average among the GLIAC's men's golfers this season. He went on to represent WSU at the NCAA D-II Championship.

A native of Marquette, MI, Johnson was selected as the GLIAC Golfer of the Year and All-GLIAC First Team selection following a season that included three top five finishes and a stroke average of 74.58. His best finish was second place on Sept. 15-16 at the Tiffin Kyle Ryman Memorial. He shot a low of 68 in the opening round of the the first NCAA Regional of the season. Named GLIAC Golfer of the Week on April 9 following a fifth-place finish at NCAA Regional #2 in Georgetown, KY. It is is the fourth time a Wayne State golfer has won the award.
