Prof. James Measell inducted into PRSA Detroit Hall of Fame...

Former Wayne State University professor Dr. James Measell will be inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Detroit Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) at its annual meeting on Nov. 3.

Dr. Measell's induction is in recognition for his dedication to student development and public relations advocacy outside the classroom. Measell was an associate professor in the Department of Communication at Wayne State University from 1970 to 1997. He developed the university's first public relations class in 1979 and the curriculum for WSU's public relations degree program in 1987.

Measell also started the Wayne State chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) in 1983, serving as faculty adviser to the student organization until his retirement eleven years later. The chapter was named the James S. Measell Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America in 2005 as a tribute to him and has grown to over 60 members.

Dr. Measell taught the history portion of PRSA Detroit's public relations accreditation study session for many years and taught and inspired many metro Detroit PR professionals who also have volunteered with Wayne's students.

Eleanor Wright, APR, a former public relations professor at Eastern Michigan University, will also be honored on Nov. 3.

Measell currently lives in southeast Ohio and is the full-time historian for Fenton Art Glass Co., in Williamston, W. Va.
