Detroit Goodfellows to celebrate 100 years of brighter holidays for children
by Charles E. Ramirez

The Detroit Goodfellows will celebrate its centennial Thursday with a dinner at the Detroit Historical Museum for members. The party from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday will feature a strolling supper, spirits and a silent auction to raise money for its efforts. It's open to the public, too, at $100 per person. The Goodfellows provide emergency dental care and shoes to needy children all year long. And it pays for kids to go to summer camp and awards two Wayne State University journalism scholarships.

"Goodfellows fundraising on track, Salvation Army Red Kettles less full"
by Bridget Vis

The Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund of Detroit has raised $797,251, nearly 66.4 percent of its $1.2 million fundraising goal for 2013. That amount is similar to what the organization had raised last year at this time. In addition to providing holiday gift packages, the Detroit Goodfellows provide free shoes, emergency dental services to children, scholarships to Wayne State University and assistance to send hundreds of disadvantaged kids to camp each summer.
