"Albion grad tells story of Beauty Queen"
by Justin Hinkley
Beauty Queen was chosen in a competitive process to be this year's production from the Michigan Creative Film Alliance, a collaboration production from Wayne State University, Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. The 30-minute film follows a 17-year-old pageant star who is counting on her pageant winnings to fund tuition at Stanford University's School of Music when she's diagnosed with alopecia and starts to lose her hair. It's a dramedy that screenplay writer Kelci Parker hopes will teach people how important it is to be themselves, whether the challenge is alopecia or anything else.
