Longtime Department member Vicki Dallas to retire after nearly 40 years.
Longtime member of the Department of Communication family, Vicki Dallas, Academic Services Office IV, will be retiring from Wayne State at the end of December. Over the past 39 years, Vicki has performed almost every role imaginable in the department: classroom instructor, area head, and office supervisor; academic advisor, budget manager, and coordinator of the schedule of classes; consultant to the chair, mentor to advisors, supporter of faculty and students, advocate for staff, and anything else that the department needs. Dean Matthew Seeger, former chair of the department and current dean of the College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts, writes, "Vicki Dallas is an example of a committed professional who manages to balance the needs of the institution, faculty and students. She brings rich knowledge and deep insights to improving the student experience and ensuring their success."
Vicki has also been a dedicated and engaged steward of the University. She has been an active member of the Academic Senate since 2005, being elected not only as a college representative, but an at-large representative as well. In 2006, she joined the critically important Policy Committee of the Academic Senate, serving as a vocal advocate for academic staff in the university, while also looking out for our department and college. And, in 2015, she joined the University Budget Committee of the Academic Senate to help guide the financial future of Wayne State. She has served on all of these committees with grace and professionalism even in the face of adversity, never once shying away from a difficult task. It is no surprise, then, that Vicki received the 2019 Distinguished Service Award from the Academic Staff Professional Development Committee.
