Journalism Day honors local professionals

Henderson, Gaddis honored by Wayne State

Wayne State University\'s journalism program named its 2008 Journalism Day professional awards, honoring Detroit Free Press Deputy Editorial Page Editor Stephen Henderson with a Service to Journalism Award and Mildred Gaddis, host of "Inside Detroit" on WCHB-AM (1200), with a Community Service Award.

Henderson\'s columns on the text message scandal involving former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick made him a frequent guest on local media as the community grappled with the intricacies surrounding the issue.

Gaddis is honored for her advocacy on behalf of the citizens of metro Detroit.

The awards are presented at the Journalism Day luncheon at noon 10/15 at WSU\'s St. Andrew\'s Hall, Lodge Service Drive north of Warren Avenue.
