Wayne State Master of Arts student Anna Fleury was selected to receive a Rising Star award at the Canada International Film Festival for her work as director of the Michigan Creative Film Alliance's 2011-12 production Beauty Queen. The festival takes place April 5-6, 2013 in Vancouver, BC. Judges found Beauty Queen to be among the very best of the several hundreds of films submitted from over 30 countries around the world and deserving of special recognition. A maximum of only 10 films per competition category are selected to be honored with this prestigious award. Fleury was invited to accept the award in person at the festival's closing night awards ceremony.
