National Communication Association Experts Provide Insight on Keeping Cupid's Arrow on Track During a Long-Distance Relationship

Washington, DC (February 6, 2012) - With Valentine's Day just one week away, there is a renewed focus on relationships and an eagerness to communicate with the ones we love. While those living in close proximity to loved ones often struggle to find just the right way to demonstrate affection, people celebrating their relationships from a geographical distance face even greater challenges.

Commuter marriages are increasingly common and have grown in number over the last 30 years, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In its most recent survey, The Center for Long Distance Relationships reported that an estimated seven million American couples (married and unmarried) are in a long-distance relationship.

National Communication Association experts are actively studying long-distance relationships-whether due to military deployment or employment situations-and can provide insight into what can help, or hinder, the success of long-distance relationships.
