Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Heidi Ewing speaks at WSU Oct. 1

The Department of Communication invites you to a special presentation by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Heidi Ewing:

Documenting "The Other"

Thursday, October 1, 2015
6:00pm Reception; 7:00pm Presentation
WSU's Community Arts Auditorium

Most documentary filmmakers venture into communities that are not their own, intent on capturing stories they wish to communicate with the world. From the religiously right (Jesus Camp) to strict Muslim communities (The Education of Mohammad Hussein) and intense pro-life activists (12th & Delaware), filmmaker Heidi Ewing has spent many years navigating the delicate responsibility of representing people and communities unlike her own.

Heidi Ewing, media artist in residence and the Fall 2015 holder of WSU's Bob Allison (Allesee) Endowed Chair in Media, will present examples of her work from the past 15 years, including DETROPIA, her 2012 film about Detroit, and excerpts of two works in progress, which are also experiencing the challenge of documenting "the other."

Please RSVP online.
