Jana Howell's research centers on critical pedagogy and communication education. She has focused on building community and fostering inclusion within the university communication classroom through implementation of adaptive course design. Her research lies at the intersections of pedagogy, culture and identity formation as it pertains to the student-teacher relationship. She has taught sections of both the basic course and nonverbal communication for the past four years at her alma mater, Eastern Michigan University, and is taking some time off from teaching this year to focus on scholarship as a Rumble Fellow at Wayne State.
