The Association of Alternative Newsmedia announced the 2012 winners of its national AltWeekly Awards at its annual convention, June 8. Wayne State journalism lecturer Jack Lessenberry won in the category of best political column. His column, "Politics & Prejudices," appears every Wednesday in Detroit's Metro Times. It was one of three AltWeekly finalists, including columns by Jed Morey of Long Island Press and Stephen Lemons of Phoenix New Times. "I suspect I have an unfair advantage, given the politicians Michigan produces," Lessenberry said.
