The beginning four courses required for the Media Arts and Studies major are:

1. COM 1500 Survey of Mass Communication. Cr. 3
2. COM 1600 Introduction to Audio-Television-Film Production. Cr. 3
3. COM 2010 (ENG 2450) (VP) Introduction to Film. Cr. 4
4. COM 2210 Writing for Radio-Television-Film. Cr. 3

 

Students can then either elect to follow a Production Track (17 credits) or a Studies Track (18 credits ). Students need to be a declared major to take many of the courses listed below:

Production Track

  • COM 3010 (WI) Television Criticism. Cr. 3
  • COM 4310 Audio Production. Cr. 4
  • COM 4410 Television Production. Cr. 4
  • COM 5380 Video Field Production and Editing. Cr. 3
  • COM 5400 Techniques of Film and Video Production. Cr. 4
     

Studies Track

  • COM 2020 (VP) History of Film. Cr. 3
  • COM 3010 (WI) Television Criticism. Cr. 3
  • COM 5010 History of Television and Radio. Cr. 4
  • COM 5060 Documentary and Non-Fiction Film and Television. Cr. 4
  • COM 5510 Mass Communications and Society. Cr. 3
